키트 등 관련 의료기기 시장이 폭발적으로 성장하면서 의료기기 산업에 대한 관심도 높아지고 있다. 해외 사례를 보면 의료기기 관련 업체들이 엄격한 규제와 복잡한 제조 공정, 설비 투자에 대한 부담을 피해 경영의 효율성을 극대화하기 위한 방안으로 위탁 생산 시스템을 도입하는 것을 볼 수 있다.

 

2020년 설립된 ㈜제이엠세이프티(대표 곽정근)는 의료기기 위탁 생산 전문 기업으로, ‘COVID-19 검체 수송용 배지’를 주력으로 생산한다.

 

The pandemic has brought a boom in the medical device industry. The diagnosis kits manufacturers especially took advantage of the momentum and have enjoyed a good harvest of profit. However, not everything went as smoothly as we might imagine: the cost of running complex manufacturing facilities is high not to mention strict regulations. For this reason, many medical companies tend to go for contract manufacturing.

 

Established in 2020, JM Safety has focused on contract manufacturing and made a strong presence in the field of specimen transport mediums.

 

 

 

◇제이엠세이프티, 주력 제품 ‘검체 수송용 배지’

㈜제이엠세이프티는 곽정근 대표가 체외 진단 관련 업체에 근무하며 미주 출장 중, 현지의 많은 의료기기 회사들이 생산 시설을 아웃소싱 하는 것을 보고 회사를 설립하게 됐다고 밝혔다.

 

㈜제이엠세이프티는 군포와 의왕 2곳에 ‘검체 수송용 배지’ 공장을 운영하고 있고, 베트남 법인에서는 혈압계와 혈당계 등 전자기기를 베이스로 한 의료기기를 생산해 일본이나 중국 기업에 납품하고 있다.

 

㈜제이엠세이프티의 주력 제품은 ‘검체 수송용 배지’이다. ‘검체 수송용 배지’는 환자에게서 채취한 검체를 검사기관까지 안전하게 보존 수송하기 위한 의료기기로 검체를 보관하는 배지통과 면봉·살리바 같은 검체 채취 수단, 버퍼 용액으로 구성됐다.

 

CEO Kwak Jung-geun used to work for a vitro diagnostics company during which he traveled overseas often and observed how they outsourcing their needs and wants for cost-effectiveness. Impressed by this, he established JM Safety.

 

He runs factories for specimen transport mediums in Gunpo and Uiwang while the facilities in Vietnam manufacture and supply blood pressure gauges and blood glucose meters to companies in Japan and China.

 

The specimen transport mediums consist of a container, sampling tools such as cotton swab, and buffer solution. The samples of patients in the mediums are delivered with utmost care to the destinations.

 

 

 

 

 

 

◇의료기기 생산에 필요한 엄격한 품질 관리로 경쟁력 확보

제이엠세이프티는 민감한 의료기기 생산을 다루는 만큼 엄격한 품질 관리 시스템과 생산 환경을 갖췄다.

 

의료기기 품질경영시스템 ‘ISO 13485-2016’ 국제표준 인증을 획득했다. ‘ISO 13485’는 국제표준화기구(ISO)가 제정한 국제 표준 규격으로 해당 기관이 의료기기 산업에 특화된 경영시스템과 품질 관리시스템을 확보했는지를 판명하는 제도다. 특히 의료분야는 타 산업에 비해 인증 절차가 까다롭고, 인증 취득이 쉽지 않다. ‘ISO 13485’는 기준이 높은 유럽과 캐나다 등에서 요구하는 조건을 충족시켜야 획득할 수 있다.

 

국내 식품의약품안전처로부터 의료기기 제조 및 품질관리 기준인 ‘GMP 적합 인증’도 획득했다. 또 ‘10,000 CLASS 클린룸 환경’과 ‘20~60% 제습 관리 시설’ 등을 갖춰 안전하고 신뢰도 높은 의료기기 생산 환경을 마련했다. 24시간 모니터링 및 관리 업체를 통한 객관적 Validation을 통한 관리도 진행하고 있다.

ISO 13485-2016, obtained by JM Safety, is quality management systems specify that an organization has to demonstrate its ability to provide medical devices and related services which consistently meet customer and applicable regulatory requirements. The standard is especially high in Europe and Canada.

 

In addition, the company obtained the GMP certificate of conformity from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. In line with these excellent achievements, CEO Kwak equipped its facilities with a ’10,000 CLASS cleanroom environment’ and ‘20~60% humidity management system’ alongside a 24 hour monitoring system through its objective validation system.

곽정근 제이엠세이프티 대표는 “국내 주요 제약사, 의료기기 업체, 병원 등과 협업하며 맞춤형 제품의 개발과 제조를 진행하고 있다”며, “소기업 및 중소기업의 초기 Sample 및 소량의 초도 양산 제품도 생산하고 있다”고 말했다.

 

제이엠세이프티는 고객사의 니즈를 면밀히 파악하고, 고객사와의 데일리 소통을 통해 고객이 원하는 질병의 배지를 맞춤형으로 생산한다.

 

고객이 원하는 형태의 버퍼 용액 등 고객사의 까다로운 요구에도 대응할 수 있는 기술력과 생산 능력을 보유하고 있어 만족도가 높다.

 

특히 제이엠세이프티는 ‘이중 진공 구조를 가진 검체통’을 개발해 특허를 받았다. 검체통인 멸균 플라스틱 케이스를 이중 구조로 만들어 온도 변화와 외부 충격에도 강하게 했다. 안정성이 뛰어난 제품으로 기온이 높은 동남아시아 국가에서도 활용 가능하다.

 

제이엠세이프티는 PCR 검사뿐 아니라 편의점이나 약국에서 판매하는 신속 진단 키트 등에 사용하는 검체 수송용 배지도 생산한다.

 

곽정근 대표는 “전 세계 현장진단 POCT(point-of-care testing) 시장은 매년 10% 이상 빠르게 성장하고 있다. 신종질병의 잦은 출현, 감염질병 유행, 인구 고령화로 인한 조기진단의 중요성이 커짐에 따라 ‘검체 수송용 배지’의 수요는 지속적으로 증가하고 있다”고 말했다.

 

또 “체외 진단 분야 뿐 아니라 국내외 종합의료기기 위탁 전문 생산기업으로 발돋움 하고자 지속적인 투자를 확대하고 있다”며, “오는 3월 키메스(KIMES) 의료기기 전시회 참가를 시작으로 글로벌 시장 진출도 타진 할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

 

Kwak says, “We provide customized design and production in collaboration with a number of pharmacists, medical device businesses and hospitals. Also our excellent initial mass production in small quantities and samples meet the needs and wants of our small and medium sized clients.”

 

It is noteworthy that the company’s patented ‘Double Vacuum Structure Sample Container’, a sterile plastic case, endures temperature changes and external shock. It can effectively be used in South East Asia where temperature is normally high.

 

Kwak says, “The POCT (Point of Care Testing) market is growing yearly by 10% globally. Subsequently, the demand for specimen transport mediums is increasing steadily as the outbreak of novel viruses and diseases has become more frequent alongside the need of early diagnosis to meet the increasing number of aged people.”

 

He adds, “We are expanding our investment with a goal to become one of the top contract manufactures for medical devices in the nation. As part of this effort, we are set to demonstrate our excellence at the Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show held in March this year.”
